Happy pre-404 Day, family!

We’ve made it once again to that most wonderful time of the year, when ATLiens celebrate all things ATL on April 4, a symbolic date whose month and day match the O.G. Atlanta area code, 404 :-) .

Starting today and throughout the weekend you’ll have every opportunity to love on the city we sometimes call the “Black Mecca” but always call home. There are plenty of things going on, which you can check out in The LineUp below and in our roundup story of 404 Day events around town :-) .

I’ve already picked up a new “A-Town down” graphic T-shirt for the shenanigans that will surely ensue. I’m also almost finished with my playlist of pre- and post-Freaknik-era music, with such classics as “Straight from the DEC” by Ghetto Mafia, “Oh” by Ciara, “Can’t Stop No Player” by Da Organization, and an assortment of classic Atlanta hip-hop and R&B cuts from Raheem the Dream, Kilo Ali, K.P. & Envyi, Rasheeda, Killer Mike, Lil Jon, Omeretta the Great, Goodie Mob, Ying Yang Twins and so on.

Don’t even ask about OutKast and the Dungeon Family; you already know - :-( :-) .

Of course Atlanta has lots going on outside of 404 Day, including the unfortunate death of rapper Young Scooter. AJC entertainment reporter DeAsia Paige has been working with the breaking news team to keep up with the tragic story and all of the questions that’ve surfaced since the news dropped last weekend. At the same time Mirtha Donastorg, a.k.a. “The hardest-working woman in business news,” has several stories this week, including her profile of Jasmine Crowe-Houston of Goodr. :-(

That story also represents the launch of Her+Story, a new series from AJC’s business team that’s all about women founders, creators, executives and professionals in metro Atlanta. Check that out, plus all the other great coverage from UATL we’ve produced since last Thursday. :-)

Enjoy the unofficial Atlanta holiday, stay safe, and we’ll see you here next week with more great Black culture coverage from the 404.
